As of September 2012 – Bureau of Labor Statistics Reports:
  • More women employed by the sex industry in the US than any other nation in the world
  • Annual Global Revenue as of 9/2012 = $75 billion
  • US Revenue = $3.1 billion
  • California brings in $1 billion – or 1/3 of the total for US
  • 400,000 dancers employed by strip clubs

In her book, Stripped | Inside the Lives of Exotic Dancers, May 2006, Bernadette Barton reports:
  • There are more women employed by the sex industry than any other time in history
  • There are more strip clubs in the United States than any other nation in the world
What is Human and/or Sex Trafficking?

Human Trafficking is the recruitment, harboring, transportation, provision, or obtaining of a person for labor or services, through the use of force, fraud or coercion for the purpose of subjection to involuntary servitude, peonage, debt bondage, or slavery. (From Polaris Project)

Sex Trafficking is the recruitment, transportation (within national or across international borders), transfer, harboring, or of persons for the purposes of commercial sexual exploitation. Sexual trafficking is accomplished by means of fraud, deception, threat of or use of force, abuse of a position of vulnerability, and other forms of coercion. (Initiative Against Sex Trafficking)

Strip Clubs are frequent targets for pimps looking to recruit dancers by enticing with false promises of more money, or sometimes threatening them and their families if they refuse.

Street prostitution; strip clubs; bars; adult entertainment theaters; pornography; porn shops/emporiums; massage parlors; escort services; rent-by-the hour hotels can all be linked with sex trafficking.
